San Antonio Express (TX)- Ranking "American Idol" winners based on the number of times they've hit the top of the Billboard charts, they'd line up like this: Kelly Clarkson (41), Fantasia (11), Carrie Underwood (10), Ruben Studdard (10) and Taylor Hicks (3).

But after winning two Country Music Association awards Monday — female vocalist of the year and Horizon Award (top newcomer) — Underwood's star is on the ascent. Not to mention that it'd been five years since a female artist had scored two No. 1 singles off their debut album when Underwood did it with "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Before He Cheats."

With her two Grammy Awards and glamorous pop appeal, Clarkson still trumps the country singer. And Studdard's lovable. But a betting man might rank "American Idol" alumni like this:
